McClellan Butte

11/22/15 trip date. I did this as a hike to the saddle only, no summit block scramble. Started at the Exit 42 trailhead in cold temp and breezes. Patchy snow began less than halfway up, then became all snow. Trail was easy to follow though, previous hikers had packed it well. It was slippery with ice in places, so we all used either yaktraks or microspikes which helped conserve energy. No snow on the summit pinnacle, rock was dry. At least a dozen big recent blow downs across the trail all the way up made for some interesting route finding either around, over, or under them. We were in good spirits and the downed trees added to the fun. Beautiful views and blue skies all day. Windy and cold at the saddle. Saw only four other hikers. A great group and a great day!
