Trip Report

Main Cowlitz Chimney

Aug 16 - We met at the Summerland TH at 6:00AM. We hiked up to Summerland and continued on the Tin Can Gap. At this point left the trail and follow the way trail near a small peak until it disappeared in the meadows. We continue up the ridge to Banshee Peak summit and on the way saw a group of about 22 goats. From Banshee we dropped down to below the Main Cowlitz Chimney and follow the standard route up. We did setup a hand line for the exposed 3rd class traverse and for the short chimney which was very wet. The rest of the way involved some route finding and 2nd and 3rd class scrambling. On the way down we did repel the wet chimney and did a 2nd repel to avoid the traverse. Sadly both summits were grey, but did get some limit views along the route. It was good group and was fun climbing with them. Total time: 14+ hours.
