From the trailhead there was slight snow and mud, but as you climbed higher, the snow became more pronounced. Towards Lizard Lake, the snow was approximately 6 inches deep. Trekking poles as well as microspikes are highly recommended. It was really nice to see everything covered in such a thick powdery blanket of snow. Overall, it was a pleasant surprise and a very fun hike.
This was a relatively difficult hike for a beginner such as me. Trying to find your footing under 6 inches of snow was not easy however, the challenge was not overwhelming. The trees, rocks and ferns were all covered in a thick layer of snow yet there were still birds chirping from the trees. This was a very fun hike and I would highly recommend it. It would be nice to see this place again in the summertime.
