Liberty Bell/Southwest Face

Liberty Bell/Beckey Route
June 21, 2014

Group size: 3 climbers

From Matt McElroy:

We left the trailhead around 6:15. The snow was hard and we required the use of crampons. There are sections of the gully and forest that are snow free. We switched between crampons and no crampon several times. We arrived at the base of the route at approximately 8:30 and began climbing around 9. The leader belayed 2 follower tied the end of a single 60m rope. We chose not to belay the 4th pitch. The 12 foot 5.7- slab at the beginning of the pitch is easily climbed in rock shoes and it is third class scrambling above this section. We reached the summit at 11:15. On the descent, we rappelled the 5.7- slab but it can be down climbed. We returned to the cars at approximately 2.
