Intermediate Snowshoe - Diamond Head

While this destination was our second choice, changed from Castle Bump in the Tatoosh due to avalanche conditions, we had a fabulous time at this Plan B destination.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

Parked at the first pullout just north of Blewett Pass, and started briefly on one of the marked noon-motorized trails, but then quickly headed directly up the ridge line just south of the pullout, generally trending south south west.  Once we intersected the Haney Meadows trail, we followed that, till the 5270' elevation.  From there, we headed up steeply at first to the saddle just southeast of Diamond Head.  From here, the way was easier to eventually, with the help of GPS, find the true summit of the peak, just the smallest of snow bumps.  No views...  So we then headed north to find the expansive view of Rainier, through Stuart, to Maude, etc.  Great place for a second lunch stop!  From here, it was quick work back to the cars.  We all thoroughly enjoyed the blue bird conditions of the day!
