Trip Report

Ingalls Peak/South Ridge

Mon Sept 28th, The four of us met at the TH at 5:30am. We had 2 basic students. Clear sky with full moon and view of the stars were spectacular. Made it up to Ingalls pass in about 1.5hrs, the Larch trees are in full fall colors along with the ground vegetation. Beautiful morning. Many goats seen along the trail.

Made it to the base of the climb within 3.5 hrs. First pitch is about half a rope length. 2nd pitch 1/4 rope length. Could have started the first pitch 20 feet higher and made the two pitches into one. 3rd pitch made it to a ledge just before reaching the rap station at the top. 2nd rope team used the bolts available just below the ledge. This way two teams were able to climb almost simultaneously without getting into each other's way. Made it to the summit by 12:00. Set up hand line and protection to reach the summit. Had lunch on top with a killer view. Saw no other climbers that day, not even on East Ingalls.

Did double rope rap from the first rap station, then two single rope raps to the base of the climb. Started back to the TH at 2:40. Did not hike back towards the lake, took a descending traverse down along the rock ridges to the trail. Some cairns along the way but not to many. Made it back to the cars by 5:30. About a 12 hour day.
