Youth trip on 10/17-10/18. Beautiful, warm weather on Saturday, despite a forecast for rain. Set up camp in the lower basin. Creek is still running so finding water is no problem. Larches have lost about half their needles at this point. No snow anywhere.
Light rain moved in over the night, turning to steady rain by late morning Sunday. The family of goats was hanging out near Ingalls Pass.
This can be a good hike for kids, but it is a little long so they need to be in reasonably good shape. Breaking it into two days was helpful. It is never super steep, very scenic, lots of fun rocks to scramble on. We enjoyed studying the many varieties of trees in the area, and the kids loved seeing the goats and listening for pikas.
