Hex Mountain

12/19/2014 A wonderful trip. Snow conditions were ideal: no snow at the trailhead discouraged snowmobiles from sharing our route. The snow started less than 100 feet from the trailhead. It slowly got thicker until we were tromping through about 10 inches of fresh powder near the summit -- thick enough for joy but not so thick as to require snowshoes. The weather was everything: warm and sunny, cold and blustery, cloudy, foggy, and clear. We made it a loop by ascending the NW side of Newport Creek and descending the SE side. The plethora of logging roads and trails on the lower slopes made navigating a challenge. Recommend using a GPS as almost any paper map is likely to be outdated regarding the location of new logging roads and trails.
