The weather wasn't as bad as it was forecasted, we had some light precipitation. The road was washed out approximately 2 miles from the trailhead, adding an additional road walk. Very high clearance cars might be able to navigate it but I do not recommend it. Mountain bikes could be useful, if you do not want the warm up.

We took the Deer Creek Pass trail to the high point and followed a path to the Helena Mine Trail which is on the west side of the south ridge. The mine trail was flagged and was easy to follow. We lost the trail in some spots. After crossing the large talus field, the trail climbs up. We reached the saddle on the ridge, and saw that the rock was too wet to scramble. So we turned around.
