Trip Report

Heather Lake (Mountain Loop)

Fun day hike with many tree roots underfoot.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Road has been re-done with gravel, and all vehicles should be able make it to this trailhead.  Northwest Forest Pass is required for parking. I've included a picture of the tree-root covered trail. It is tricky underfoot at times with some awkward-sized steps required. The first 0.5 miles of the trail has been nicely redone with gravel and the rest of the way is embedded with rocks and tree roots. Other than that, this is a great hike, and luckily, I saw no mosquitoes, just a few flies. Glad it was a dry day; wet weather would make the tree roots slippery (not sure why the rock at the fallen tree was wet, but it was). Fireweed and berries at the lake were a plus.
