Trip Report

Hamilton Mountain

Honored Martin Luther King Jr. yesterday in the Columbia River Gorge with our sister club, the Mazamas.

  • Day Hiking
  • Successful
  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Good trail conditions, other than a few sketchy spots where erosion added a bit of a challenge with slick mushy snow on rock and slippery mud just past Hardy Falls. Good boot path on snow to the summit, but used micro-spikes for added traction. Descended the same route due to knee-deep, soft snow along the loop route that was not tracked out.

This was my first trip lead as a hike leader for the Mazamas, our sister organization in Portland. A good day out with fun outdoor-loving folks! Cloudy skies with a chilly wind, but not extremely cold. Nice views of snow covered Oregon hills, Table Mtn., and peaks of Mts. Hood and Adams.  A long drive, but well worth the effort.
