Sept.4,2014, our group of five completed a scramble of Barrier Peak. 8 hours, 3,100 ft. gain, 12 miles. After coming in on the Owyhigh Lake trail,we proceeded off trail around the south side of Owyhigh Lakes and then up to the saddle between Governors Ridge and Barrier. The route description says to go due south for Barrier, but that would be impossible. We went over saddle descended down a gully then proceeded south to the SE approach to the summit. We descended the west side of the summit and found an easy elk trail back to the main trail. We found the descent much easier than the path over the saddle between Gov.Ridge and Barrier.
Weather was gorgeous, clear and sunny. Excellent time of year to do this scramble.
