Gove Peak (winter)

Left park entrance at 8:30 a.m. on mountain bikes. Left trail just prior to it dropping down to Green Lake and bearing of 131. Went left around first rock cliff at 3,700, and then left around second rock and then immediately up onto minor ridge before heading into gulley. First encountered snow patches at 4,000', full snow travel at approximately 4400'. Followed south bearing to ridge. Straight forward on the ridge...no cornices; found the two trees you have to squeeze between. Summited at 1:50 a.m. Equipment: Ice axe, snowshoes, helmet. Did not use snowshoes, although we probably could have in some of the upper, open sections, but it did not seem to be worth the time to put them on. Back to cars at 5:50 p.m. in a light drizzle.
