Goat Island

  • Goat Island
  • Sea Kayaking

We had a great afternoon paddle around Goat Island on 6-27-15. Saw large numbers of great blue herons along the jetty and many juvenile eagles along the south side of Goat Island. Proceeded from La Conner down the Swinomish Channel then out to the north side of the island where we landed at the beach near the remains of the old wharf and took the 5 minute walk up the trail to Mayan-esque remains of Fort Whitman. Launched again for a smooth and picture perfect paddle around to the south side of the island. We passed through the jetty at the fishway on the 7'+ tide and headed back to La Conner against some small wind waves and a bit of a head wind. Arrived back in La Conner about 15 minutes later than planned. Total trip distance 6.9 miles. Average speed 2.4 mph.
