The trail was snow-free for the first 0.5 miles. Patchy snow began and continued for the next mile, with snow requiring at least boots being encountered and the occasional post-hole after that. The lake was gruesome to navigate due to post-holing every 30 steps or so. Snow was soft and did not require crampons. We put on crampons for the approach to the Colchuck Col, though you could possibly kick steps up it. We went up at around 630 in the morning. Dragontail's West Couloir required crampons and was very firm. Soft snow was encountered on Dragontail's summit ridge.
Stuart Lake Trailhead is open! Crampons are required. Snowshoes or skis are not needed. Expect soft snow on the trail. Weather was perfect, with a slight wind out of the north. Temperatures were perfect.
