Trip Report

Day Hike West Tiger Mountain 1-2-3 Loop

Hiked a nine-mile loop to get some training. A very wet day. Some trees down on route.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The trails were wet.  Snow on upper mountain was slushy and melting.  There was debris on the trails from a recent windstorm.  Some trees were down over the trail but were easy to get around.

I did a climb conditioning hike on St Patrick's day.  I left Highpoint Trailhead around 8:15 AM.  I headed east on the Tiger Mountain Trail to the junction with West Tiger Railroad Grade.  I followed RR Grade a short way to the Preston Trail.  The Preston Trail took me to West Tiger #1 and the Hiker's Hut.  There were trees down on the TMT and the Preston Trail - they were easy to get past but will need to be removed at some point.  There was continuous slushy snow on the Preston Trial.

I stopped at the Hiker's Hut long enough to add a layer without getting (further) soaked.  It was a welcome place to get out of the wind.

I headed to West Tiger #2 down the forest road. It was windy and rainy but easy walking.

Next stop was West Tiger #3.  I took a quick photo and headed down Section Line.  It was nice to get out of the wind, but the rain continued.

I took Section Line to the Talus Rocks Trail and Talus Rocks to West Tiger #3 Trail back to Highpoint.

Total trip was 9.15 miles with 3300' of gain.  Trip took just under 5 hours.
