Trip Report

Day Hike - Twin Falls

Wintry conditions with sunny skies along sparkling S Fork Snoqualmie River to the cascades of several waterfalls

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Hiked in microspikes due to ice and snow.  Note the lovely blue sky, above.20250207_trail(sm).jpg

One treefall across the trail that was easily straddled to continue on the trail.  Two tree/limbs across the trail but not difficult to get by my bending low to get under.  Stairs to view the lower falls were covered in packed snow.20250207_stairs.jpg

A lot of churn in the roster due to the prior days' of snowfall in the city with some not feeling safe to even drive out their own driveways. Delayed the start time by 3 hours to make the morning drive to the trailhead safer. Arrived at the TH under blue skies and warm sun beaming through the trees. The waterfalls were glorious in their winter cloak (see video here). After a few hundred feet along the trail, we all put on our microspikes and continued the rest of the trip even though there were bare sections ... the snow & ice sections definitely required traction.  For the one for whom it was the first time to hike on snow, they felt pleased to complete the trip in good company, not as difficult as they thought and now won't continue to avoid hikes that might involve snow.  As trip leader, this feedback let me know they felt safe enough with me to try something that was at the edge of their comfort zone and was an encouragement to know that my volunteering is appreciated.20250207_Group2(sm).jpg
