Trip Report

Day Hike - Tolt MacDonald Park

Hike for 20-30 somethings at a local park along the Tolt River.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • IMPORTANT: The bridge is currently closed making access to the West side of the park inaccessible from the main parking lot. This was an oversight when originally scheduling this activity.

Other than the bridge being out, the trails in the area were in great condition.

Parking/Driving

The parking lot is large and has plenty of space available. There is no difficulty getting to/from the parking lot.

Route

We were not anticipating the bridge being out so we made some last minute modifications to the activity route. Instead of going to the West side of the park as planned, we took the trail that parallels the Tolt River. In order to get a little extra distance, we did a short out-and-back along the Snoqualmie Valley Trail that intersects with the trail along the Tolt River.

Experience

We were surprised that the weather was Summer-like in the middle of Winter. We were all prepped for the sun and heat with breathable layers and sunglasses. The shade in areas provided a nice reprieve from the heat even though there wasn't much of a breeze. The weather let us have a comfortable outing and discussions without having to worry about trail conditions.

The hike ended earlier than expected based on the necessary route changes and fast pace. The planned pace for the hike was 2mph though we ended up finding a comfortable group pace of ~2.5mph given the route's conditions (it was very flat). We  finished the hike in a little over 2 hours.
