Day Hike - Tiger Mountain Trail

A full day of hiking traversing Tiger Mountain south to north on the Tiger Mountain Trail.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Trails were in surprisingly good shape given the recent storms. There were a few blowdowns but all were easily stepped over. There was very little mud until the last part of the route near the main Tiger trailhead. Snow was 1-2" deep on the south side of Tiger but just a dusting on the north descent; just enough snow to make it pretty but not enough to require miscrospikes.

I have been wanting to repeat this hike since I first did it several years ago, but wasn't sure it would be as pleasant after the South Tiger logging. Although the logged section was clear cut (see photo), it does not take long to travel through and is not a huge detraction from this otherwise lovely route. With a short 15-minute car shuttle, this is a great way to log some long miles during the winter months. Hiking briskly, we completed the route in 7-1/2 hours. We saw only a single person during the first half of the hike; encounters with others became more common as we approached the northern terminus. We saw a deer just before we crossed Cableline (my first time seeing a deer on Tiger Mountain). Everyone came very well prepared and helped with navigation. What a fantastic day with a great group of hikers.
