Trip Report

Day Hike - Shoreview & Boeing Creek Parks

Stepping stones, varied thrushes, and willows, oh my! 9 of us enjoyed 4 miles of rambling with my dog Ajax on a lovely break-between-weather-systems walk.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Other than a few muddy spots the trail is in decent condition. We found one lesser-used trail in Boeing Creek park with a big blow-down that required assisting my dog over, and we avoided the eroding creek trail. Restrooms were open at the tennis parking lot, and weather cooperated - I'd been worried about wind but it stayed calm for our 2+ hour adventure.

9 of us met at 7 to stretch and do introductions, then we headed up for the view point (clouded over), dog park, ramble over to the dry creek bed into Boeing Creek, and after a restroom visit we explored the bottom of the ravine where Hidden Lake is no longer. Folks enjoyed the stepping stones across the creek.

On the morning we had 24 bird species including two types of woodpeckers, my first varied thrushes of the season, a bald eagle, Hutton's vireo, and tons of robins. Birdcast.org opens March 1 for bird migration! On the morning, 1.9 mph for 4 miles and great socializing. We returned to the viewpoint for one last look at the Olympics and were rewarded with a view of the snowy peaks.
