Trip Report

Day Hike - Pratt River Connector

Frosty morning on the Pratt River Connector! The SE Middle Fork Rd IS open, despite what Google and Apple Maps say.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Mostly clear trail with  a couple of downed trees between miles 3 and 4. The ground was mostly frozen so no mud to contend with today, but some icy patches near the trailhead were particularly treacherous.

Despite what the King County website and Google and Apple Maps say, the SE Middle Fork Rd is open and passable all the way from I-90 to the trailhead. There are two washouts that look to have been mostly repaired, but they are still routing cars around them, narrowing the road to one lane. So give yourself a little extra time if you are planning on heading out during a busy time of day!

Temps were in the 30's and low 40's, so the mud was mostly frozen and we stayed dry. A few very icy patches near the trailhead were very slick, but otherwise the trail was relatively clear. A couple of blowdowns remain between 3 and 4 miles out, but otherwise most of the downed trees have been cleared from the trail. Overall it was a great day!
