Day Hike - Pinnacle Peak/South Trail
Great uphill trip to the lookout. Viewed both the horizonal and vertical Basalt Columns. Small side trip (100 yards) to stellar lookout point for view of Mt Rainer (if it was out). Saw Seattle in the distance. Flowers in bloom - to include orange honey suckle. Animals - A beautiful Barred (Hoot) Owl. See picture!

The trail was in light use today with only a few pet friendly hikers, and a couple of trail runners. It was dry with no mud or puddle to be seen. It was in a 5, out of 5 star condition.
Today was AWESOME! We were eager hikers raring to go! We started at Pinnacle Peak Park. A place that has plenty of parking that does not require a parking permit. There is a clean pit toilet and a nice picnic table where we met to start our adventure.
We hiked an unexpected 1.9 pace up and back. Our elevation was over 1020 feet with about 3.5 miles, in and out. We started our trek at about 5:45pm and were back at the trail head at 8:10pm. It was a perfect after hours hike that took about 2.5 hours, to include our intake of snacks and views from the lookout.
Everyone in the group had skills, experiences, and information to share about this particular trail, which made this trip over the top! I could say an owl "made" this trip, but it in the end, it was the people. I learned a lot from everyone!
Our trip started rather cloudy and ended with the sun breaking through. Mt. Rainer was hiding today, it did not matter though, the views of everything else were fantastic. The foothills, Seattle, the vally, oh my! On the way down, when the sun showed itself, it hit every tree, flower and shrub for that wonderous spring Green effect!
Mother nature did not dissapoint. She showed us all her beauty; from upcoming colorful and fragrant flowers, to a banana slug, and then....that gorgeous Barred Owl.
