Trip Report

Day Hike - Newberry Hill Heritage Park

The group enjoyed two loops - the first through the mature forest on the west side of the park and a second one through the center of the wetland and up over Rhodie Hill.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • We arrived at 10:00 and there was plenty of parking at the trailhead.  All the trails were in excellent condition.

The group first enjoy the old growth forest west of the trailhead by hiking a two mile loop on the Big Cedar, Beaver Loop and Deer Loop trails.  Then we passed back by the trailhead to reach the Deer Fern trail and headed south to the wetland area.  Using the Bird Meadow and Wildlife trails we continued down to the bird watching platform to enjoy a view of the Natural Heritage designated wetland.  The lunch stop was near the bird watching platform with a view of the open water. We returned on  loop on the east side of the park on the Old Loop Road, Rhodie Hill, Coyote Loop and Raven's Trail.  The trip was 7.45 miles, 450 feet elevation gain in 3 hours 48 minutes.Newberry_Hill_2.JPG
