Trip Report

Day hike, Naturalist hike - Ebey Waterfront Trail

The Ebey Waterfront Trail is a paved trail along the Ebey Slough and Qwuloolt Estuary, south of Marysville, Washington.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The Ebey Waterfront Trail, in Marysville, is completely paved.  It is suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.  The trail is wide so it's easy to have a slower pace for activities, such as birding.

Look for the beginning of the trail near the State Route 529 bridge into Marysville.  Look for the trail that passes under the bridge.  The route starts out between the Marysville Sewage Lagoon (where there are often various kinds of ducks and other water fowl) and Steamboat Slough.  The I-5 freeway is also nearby so freeway noise is apparent.  Eventually, you leave the sewage treatment ponds and freeway noise behind.

The main trailhead is located at the City of Marysville's Ebey Waterfront Park and boat ramp.  The parking lot is located just west of State Route 529 and north of Steamboat Slough.

There is a large parking lot and restrooms at the trailhead.  There are no restrooms on the trail.  There are a few picnic tables located near the east end of the trail.

In addition to the main 'out and back' trail, there is a paved trail that will go northward, to 3rd Avenue, in Marysville.

The Ebey Waterfront Trail can be a good trail for birding due to the varied habitats - marsh, river, brush and trees.

Planted honeysuckle along the fence attracted several hummingbirds.  There were also grape plants with sweet grapes along the fence. Sweet blackberries too!
