Trip Report

Day Hike - Mount Walker

A great Spring-like day to start hiking in the new year!

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The gate was open to the trailhead. A few holes to watch for, but otherwise in good shape. There were only a couple other cars at the trailhead and we saw just a handful of other hikers. A few more were going up as we headed down, and the weather had begun to get drippy as we descended. The trails to the main summit and south summit are in excellent condition, no obstacles. Only a small, skinny layer of mushy snow at the main summit. The bathrooms at the south summit were open and stocked. We did not check the outhouses near the north (main) summit.

The day's forecast called for rain on and off, so we were prepared for anything. But it was a surprisingly nice day with peeks of sun and temps in what felt like high 40's during our ascent. We enjoyed nice views of the Olympics and dramatic clouds seemed to commingle with lowland fog at the south summit.

The south summit was a perfect place for lunch and photos!  Some of us also grabbed an opportunity to rest:

Total rt mileage was just under 6; elevation gain 2,100'; total time was a few minutes over 4 hours including breaks. A very fun day with Mountaineer adventure buddies!
