The unpaved mile to the trailhead is in great condition, was apparently "fixed" recently, no potholes until the short ramp up to the trailhead. The trail itself is in great shape except for the usual unmaintained stretches to the summit from Horse Camp.
Three other cars at the trailhead when we arrived at 6:45. With an early morning start we avoided the heat of the day. Saw only seven other hikers. The higher we got the less smoke but not bad enough to really bother us. However, our views were obscured so we took very few photos. A few flies, yellow jackets, and mosquitoes were annoying but not terrible. None of us got stung, but we did get a few bites here and there and didn't spend much time at the summit. We did the lollipop loop clockwise and there were fewer bugs on the return trip. Our rt time was 5 hours/45 minutes, 6.4 miles, and 3,500' gain. Overall a nice day out!
