Trip Report

Day Hike - Green Mountain: Gold Creek Trail

A fun time galavanting off the beaten path!

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Plenty of parking at the trailhead, and a relatively clean bathroom. The trails are good, no obstacles worth mentioning. There is another bathroom (made of stone) not far from the summit.

We gathered at the Gold Creek trailhead under a sunny sky and started our adventure at 10:00. It was chilly but not terribly cold. The trail is mostly flatish for a ways until we left it at an unmarked spot and headed quite steeply uphill. This unmaintained path was easy to follow and actually fun! Our fearless leader knew exactly which way to turn at the frequent junctions, many of which would have taken us nowhere or somewhere else. But we never got "tired":

The summit had lots of visitors, but it did not feel crowded. We enjoyed the views, took photos, had lunch, and looped back to the trailhead along the Gold Creek Trail. Even better views greeted us along the return trip. RT mileage was a little over 5 with slightly over 1,000' gain. It was a very enjoyable hike on a gorgeous day with a wonderful group of Mountaineers!
