Day Hike - Goat Lake (Monte Cristo)

Great hike with a great group.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

  • The upper trail is in good condition.  The trail from the merge of the upper- and lower-trails to the lake has some logs across the trail which are passable by either going under or over.  The long log at the lake to sit on is gone.  In certain sections of the trail, vegetation is starting to obstruct the trail.  There is running water over the trail in a few spots but is passable.~

The group arrived at the trailhead at 9:00AM which was ~80% full.  Some vehicles were parked on the side of the road.  Departed the trailhead at 9:20AM and arrived at the lake at 11:50AM.  Departed the lake at 12:20 and arrived back to the trailhead at 2:30PM.  The weather was overcast with a temperature at the lake of 55°F.

The rangers at the Verlot RS did say there have been multiple vehicle break-in at the trailhead this year.  The most recent was on 20 June 25 where three vehicles were broken-into by breaking the windows.  No vehicle break-ins occurred on 22 June 25.
