Trip Report

Day Hike - Dosewallips State Park

Wonderful Tuesday hike at the Dosewallips State Park in the warm weather. Started on the Maple Valley trail and continued on the Steam Donkey Loop trail ending with a walk out to the tidelands.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Plenty of water running down some sections of the Steam Donkey Loop trail on the southern section where there are quite a few tree roots. One small tree down on the upper section of the trail that is precariously leaning against another tree branch.

We parked next to the very clean bathrooms and showers at the state park. Great job by the staff. Discover Pass is required.

Lots of moss and mushrooms to be seen while hiking the trails in the park. Phantom Creek was overflowing with water running down the hill. We saw quite a number of rough-skinned newts swimming in the mill pond. The water in the pond was quite high after all the rain.

The sun came out while we were on the tide flats. And the clouds cleared enough to the west to give us views of snow on the Olympic Mountains.

Clouds were to the south and north us. Below is a picture to the south.
