Day Hike - Clark's Creek Park Loop

Great forest/ urban hike. Well marked and cared for. Lots of things in nature to see

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The hike we did today started out at the north parking lot, as we walked past the tennis courts we started in the forest. After it raining so much lately the was just a bit muddy. Hiking boots and poles came in real handy. Today there were no hazards on the the trail.

This is a great hike if you just want to get outside and stretch your legs a little bit and see what is out there. This is also a great hiking trail for young and old alike. It’s just at 5 miles in length with less than 300 feet gain. It is a loop and there is so much to see on the trail. Today, just after we started hiking, we came across these heron bird nests. and then much to our surprise, we saw three of them flying around the bird nests. It was a beautiful sight to see. Following the trail, you encounter a different tree species and plant life and the different kinds of berries that grow in the forest. On this trail we saw a young salamander just off of the trail. I have hiked this trail many times before and I have never seen this much water flowing through the area. It was great to see. Although the off and on rain/drizzle did not dampen our spirits one little bit. There are a few streams to cross, but there are logs that cross over the stream to make it accessible to the other side of the stream. On the urban portion of the hike we saw an otter swimming up stream in the Silver Creek area. Let’s not forget the overlook of Clark’s Creek. When in season the salmon swim up stream to the local Puyallup hatchery.
