Trip Report

Day Hike - Cedar Butte (Olallie State Park)

A beautiful evening for a hike to Cedar Butte.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Major blowdown has been cleared. There are still branches across the trail that are a nuisance, but easily brushed aside. Other than that the trail is in good shape.

It was a beautiful warm evening. The skies were clear, giving us a good view at the top. Salmonberry, Wood violets and Trilliums are blooming.

Warning: Many people have told me that the gate is not really locked at night. It is! As we came down to the parking lot we saw white flashing lights in the Rattlesnake Ledge parking lot and someone with a bullhorn was announcing that everyone must exit the parking lot within 25 minutes before the gates are locked. This was 25 minutes before dusk which was 8:18 on Wednesday. I don't know if this warning was only for Rattlesnake Ledge. Check with Ollie State Park for accurate information on the gate to the Cedar Butte trail parking lot.
