Day Hike - Capitol Campus to Capitol Lake

A very successful outing.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Note the map in the current brochure includes a visitor center that was removed years ago. I discovered it on my scouting trip so we used it as an example of what to do when your map is not up-to-date.

The kids liked navigating using the state botanical garden maps, learned about 5 native trees, one started from a seedling that went to the moon. We included activities like guessing how long the 70 foot canoe that the Indigenous people would have made from a red cedar, and then measuring it out with a tape measure to see if we were right. The length and activities were a good fit for the kids who ranged from age 3 to 7.
