Cross-country Ski - John Wayne Pioneer Trail (winter

Great scenery. Nicely groomed trail.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • John Wayne Trail was groomed before we arrived and groomed once again while we were on it.  Very nice skiing conditions.  We skied through the forest and along the upper shore of Lake Keechelus.

We parked in the Crystal Springs parking lot (rather than Hyak) and skied east to west along the old Milwaukee Railroad route.

Only downside was the proximity of snowmobiles.  One wonders if the decibels from their motors could be muffled by regulation as is true with cars.
