Trip Report
Basic Snowshoe - Wenatchee Crest
Lovely overnight snowshoe near Blewett Pass, with our snowshoes on our backs for most of the trip. Bobcat and cougar tracks (yikes!) and views of the Stuart Range.

Route was a combination of compact snow on forest service road, "Cascade Concrete" when making our way through the trees along the Wenatchee Crest, and terra firma in many spots.
After parking at the Blewett Pass Sno-Park, 5 intrepid winter campers set out along forest service road. Wearing our snowshoes, we took our first available opportunity to leave the road and venture up onto the crest.

It was slow going with our heavy winter packs.

We very quickly found ourselves running out of snow, as our path on the south side of the crest was fully melted out.

So we headed back down to the forest service road on the north side of the crest so that we could trek on snow.

We quickly jettisoned our snowshoes and just booted up to camp.

We camped at a nice plateau between peaks 4411 and 4675. Most tents were directly on the ground. My tent was on a whopping 2" of snow.

We then did a day hike - sans snowshoes - to Old Pass Hill. We spotted bobcat tracks...

...and much larger cougar tracks.

Complete with claw marks. Big claws.

The ascent to Old Pass Hill was above the clouds.

From the summit, we had views of Adams, Rainier, and the Stuart range.

More views of the Stuart range as we descended...

Back in camp, we collected snow for melting but used a very non-winter camp kitchen.

We woke up to clear skies and had a lovely walk -- not snowshoe -- back to the trailhead.
