Trip Report

Basic Snowshoe - Wenatchee Crest

The east side opened up in a nice way for our trip. Splashes of sun throughout our trip played across the landscape.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Off trail on the ridge we encountered wind scoured, crusty areas on south and ridge top.  On  the lee side, shallow wind deposited areas.  The road had dusting of recent snow, and shallow wind blown deposits.  Though temperate ranged up above freezing, the flurries were still dry, graupel like flakes.

We ventured up off the road a bit to enjoy some untracked wandering on the ridge, between the ponderosa pines,  before settling back to the main road route. This side trip added a few hundred feet of elevation gain, and extra views.  My GPS showed total elevation of 950 ft.  From the ridge line able to see views of drainages both south and north of our route.   Enjoyed peeks of the Stuart Range along the way .  Found a nice point to build our lunch bench, and a bite to eat before heading back to the TH.
