Basic Crewing/Sailing Course - Tacoma, Experience Sail #2 - Beatrix, Foss Harbor Marina

This was Experience Sail #2 which was completed in Commencement Bay, WA.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

Sail was conducted in Commencement Bay.  Wind conditions were light to about 8-9 knots of wind.  All students were able to practice helming with attention paid to points of sail, tacking and gibing, genoa and main sail trimming.  We were able to watch a portion of the annual Daffodil Boat Parade from the water. Students were very enthusiastic and helpful with the tasks required to prepare to leave and arrive at the dock and put away a 41-foot cruising sailboat at the end of the sail.  We were able to use a furling headsail as well as a light air reacher set similarly to a spinnaker.  Boat safety and safety equipment were reviewed prior to leaving the dock.
