Basic Backpack - Talapus, Ollalie, Rainbow & Island Lakes

Rain and cool temperatures plus a midweek start meant that we had most of this area of Alpine Lakes Wilderness to ourselves. An excellent group stayed positive and energetic despite the chilly, damp conditions. We explored several lakes and hiked Mt. Defiance. Meadows were stunning; summit views not so much:

We camped for two nights at Island Lake. There are several group sites. We got in early and were able to take the biggest and best site, by the lake; there was room for three double tents and two single tents. It would have been challenging to find flat spots for more tents in that particular area. The other two camp sites could fit a few tents each, but probably not a large group.
