Basic Alpine Climb - Sahale Peak/Quien Sabe Glacier

Fun one day climb of Sahale, up Quien Sabe and down the Sahale Arm.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

A fun trip of Sahale in a day, up the Quien Sabe glacier and down the Sahale arm. 14 hours car to car with a group of 8. Limited visibility going up the Quien Sabe glacier with no views of Boston Basin but enough visibility to navigate the large crevasses. Rain in the form of a heavy, heavy mist soaked everything but thankfully the temperature was just warm enough to not make it miserable.

Setup a hand line going up to the Sahale summit. Used a couple of nuts and a #.5 to protect the wet rock. Next time I would bring nuts and only one or two cams smaller than #.5, did not need the #.75 or #1. Had amazing views of whiteness at the summit and started setting up the 30m double rope rappel before the entire party reached the summit. Small scramble/down climb off of the rappel down to the Sahale glacier.

Weather cleared by the time we reached the Sahale Arm and everyone was in good spirits and a good bit dryer. Many of the team will need to repeat the trip to experience the amazing views we missed out on. Ended the trip with changing a flat tire back at the Cascade Pass Trailhead.
