Trip Report

Austin Pass (winter)

9am start, cold, and some wind. Backpacks and snowshoes up to Austin Pass. Around 50 inches of snow in places. Great consistency for digging and making blocks. The trick was finding the right place top dig in the somewhat poor snow conditions, Sunshine and clear for the rest of the trip. Cold at night. Results: One snow cave for two people, successful! One snow trench shelter for one person, successful! Students slept in both. Dinner together after dark, good company. Everyone was energetic, and enthusiastic. A successful trip in all respects. Breakfast together and down the hill in sunshine Sunday.
