The trail eases you in with a fairly level first half mile, lulling you into a sense of calm before beginning a steady climb of just over 500 feet. As you gain elevation, the forest closes in—thick with moss-draped trees, glowing lichens, and the occasional burst of salmonberries along the path. The journey builds to a dramatic crossing at a large bridge suspended above a roaring, mid-sized waterfall, its spray and sound echoing through the gorge. Beyond this point, near the upper falls, the trail was closed for repairs, marking a natural turnaround after a rewarding ascent.
Arriving early is well worth it—the parking lot fills up quickly by mid-morning. Stepping onto the trail feels like entering another world, almost like the opening scene of It’s a Small World at Disneyland, where the forest suddenly wraps around you. Towering trees rise overhead, their roots twisting across the path alongside scattered rocks that keep the hike interesting. Along the way, you’ll cross three bridges, each charming in its own way, but the largest one near the upper part of the trail truly stands out—wide, sturdy, and wonderfully scenic. The trail is mostly dry with just a bit of mud and occasional standing water, nothing to slow you down. All in all, it’s a welcoming and rewarding hike, perfect for easing back into hiking while still offering plenty to admire.
