Alpine Scramble - Yellow Aster Butte

Great scramble, views and wild flowers with a very nice group of students.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Some snow patches.  Early in the season there could be some nasty snow slopes to transit.  In late spring/early summer could have avy issues  Our scramble had excellent route conditions..

We had a party of 5, including 4 students. Perfect hiking/scramble weather. Trail in good condition with several snow patches. Wild flowers at their prime. Only a few other hikers and backpackers. No one on the scramble route when we ascended. Scramble route in good condition with usual loose dirt and rocks. Stats were: 3,000 ft., 8 miles, and 7 ¾ hours including a shortish stop on the ascent, 2 long rest stops at the hiker’s summit, a brief period on the small scramble summit and lots of flower stops. All the students were excellent party members.
