Alpine Scramble - Washington-Ellinor Traverse

washington-ellinor traverse

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

no viz the whole trip.   ~5500 a challenging rock/snow step on approach to washington.  up above, we took the super easy, not exposed, class 2 walk around climber's left at washington's summit block.  not sure why people don't typically go this way.   we then descended back down to ~4900.  after dead-ending in the zero viz, we traversed still in zero viz toward ellinor on easy snow roughly at 5200' and then ascended easy snow between a and b peaks and cruised to ellinor summit.  descent from ellinor was easy, but steeper than i expected.  glissading at this time looked like a terrible idea - tons of hazards in the glissade track.  fun trip.

road to mt wa parking snow free.  upper lena parking lot has one short snow patch, that a subaru bravely made it through.
