Alpine Scramble - Tahtlum Peak

Snow scramble in June to exceptional viewpoint on a record heat day for early June

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Solid snow from 410 parking area until summit ridge, then option of way trails on south side, or nice snow ramp on north side that led to within feet of summit.

6/5/16 5 of us dropped about 150' to more level terrain from 410, then paralleled and eventually followed summer PCT route.  Attempt at sidehilling to cut the distance to the saddle below Tahtlum was not advantageous.  The bigger bump before reaching the low point on the 5760' saddle has solid rock with good holds on its east side that some of us scrambled up on the way back.  Snow credit for student.  The round trip is actually 6 miles and 1600' gain.  It took us about 4.5 hours plus summit break.
