- The trail is melted out all the way to the West Snoqualmie summit.
- There's a water trickle around 4500ft that's suitable for filtering water.
- The snow traverse on the North side of the East Snoqualmie is quite steep, please bring crampons /ice axe and be prepared to dagger downclimb. The snow was very firm even in a scorcher of a day like today and we were happy to bring crampons with us.
Please take a look at Susan Shih's amazing trip report for a more detailed beta on where the scramble goes and useful tooltips. We followed their path almost to a T, but I'll note a few differences:
The exposed step-around was quite fun and has a lot of points of contact to get around it and is only a few steps!
However, the rocky scramble onto the slabby ramp hasn't quite melted out and we ran into a lot of steep snow:
We followed the snow for about half of the snow traverse until we hit some melted out rocks and even steeper snow, so we negotiated some high dagger downclimbing onto the slabby ramp instead. Please be very careful here, the runout is awful and the there's a cliff right off the slabby ramp into a void...
There's still quite a bit of snow past the ramp, which made for a pleasant scramble to the saddle before the last hundred or so feet of exposed and tricky scrambling that gives this scramble a solid T4 rating.
As Susan has noted, the summit is quite small and we took turns getting to the top and taking some pictures!
All in all a gorgeous day, even though it hit 85F and was quite scorching. Most of this scramble is exposed, so please bring enough water to last a day since the water sources are quite unreliable. Good luck!
