Most of this is on trail this time of the year. Only the last portion was off trail and the most fun.
This was going to be a hot day so the 7 of us departed the TH at Alpental at 6:45am. Even at this early hour it was already warm. We took the usual steep trail to Snoqualmie Mtn (which is now often considered W Snoqualmie) with many, many stops to cool down. Since this was a short trip and a hot day, no one felt any need to rush.
Right before reaching the west peak, there is a spur trail descending to the base of the east peak. It took us a little time to find the exposed ledge that will take you to the north side of the peak.
The exposed ledge is very short, only a few steps to step around.
Now on the north side. Most of us squeezed into the moat to continue to the east ridge, but one person walked around.
Heading to the saddle below the east ridge.
Almost at the saddle (base of the east ridge).
Up the east ridge we go.
Almost there.
On the summit. It's exposed and small. Some may want a rope here, but this very experienced group were fine without one.
Looking at all the people coming up to the west summit which is very close. You can see the spur trail leaving the trail to the west summit. Photo taken from the east summit.
One person stayed near the west summit and took our photo on the east summit. Looks impressive, but was actually fairly easy. Too bad I can't turn this photo around.
Leaving the summit and heading back to the saddle.
Back at the saddle and looking at the route.
Scrambling up to the exposed step around ledge.
The last 2 people are just making their way around the exposed step around.
Looking back at the north side of the E Snoqualmie Peak as we head for the west summit. You can see our route nicely from here.
So many great views I am not including. Great day, great group!
You can also do this as a loop or traverse from Guye, etc. Lots of options to make the day shorter or longer. There was no water to filter along our route except very close to the TH. Due to it being so hot, many of us should have carried more.
