Trip Report

Alpine Scramble - Silver Peak

This was a beautiful day and successful summit. 6.3 miles and 2,329 ft gain.

  • Road recommended for high clearance only

The road had sections that had large potholes and ruts from water erosion. High clearance vehicles and drivers comfortable with this type of road recommended. No snow leading up to Windy Pass.

We started at the TH at 8 am. Snowshoes and microspikes were not needed. The trail had consolidated snow intermittently over the trail at 4200 ft. and continues to the saddle between South Silver and Silver. The more continuous snow starts at 4400ft.  The greatest risk were snowbridges that are melting fast even in places that looked solid we heard streams underneath so be careful. The ascent up the talus and rock was dry and straightforward. The temperature increased and as we went up the south ascent talus field it felt like mid summer with temps in the 80's. After a 30 minute lunch at the summit we headed back following our tracks.Back to the car at 2:45pm.  Great group of Mountaineers. Overall nice successful day!PXL_20260509_181859434.MP.jpgPXL_20260509_172528337.jpg
