Trip Report
Alpine Scramble - Silver King
5 scramblers had a good day on Silver King, although a lot of recent snow made parts of the trip a bit of a slog. Still, weather was good, and views were great.

For much of the trip, the snow was unconsolidated (1.5 to 2 feet had fallen about 5 days earlier), so this trip was harder work than usual. The slopes on the NW side of the NE ridge (where I've often glissaded) showed evidence of slides, mostly surface stuff, but with so much new snow, we decided not to risk it.
Although the ski area was closed, it will open for a bonus weekend next weekend. So, we had to follow the rules for uphill travel that took us farther east than a more direct route. We thus chose to access Silver King's NE ridge by climbing to the saddle near 6100' from the SE, and followed the ridge the rest of the way. Much of the day was cloudy, and there was a chilly wind when we started, but the weather improved enough that we had great views and pleasant temperatures on top. We returned the way we came.
Snow conditions weren't great for snow practice but we did manage one fairly short glissade.
This was the first scramble for two students.
