Alpine Scramble - Sasse Mountain (winter)

At last, the weather was our friend. Nice winter scramble

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Turns out that a Sno-Park pass is required at this pull out.

Headed uphill from the pull out parking near Cle Elum River Campground. Ascended relatively firm snow to Howson Creek at 2,600 Ft. and then continued on uphill on a an easterly and slightly north ascent. Found ourselves heading southerly to early, ascending a ways up the ridge to point 5335 before dropping back down and staying lower on the mountain to bypass  Not So Sasse to the south. Final stretch took us to a not so impressive summit but Hey....no complaints here. A great route for a winter scramble and well worth the effort. All told we logged about 3,900 ft of gain and took a little under 9 hours to make the trip.
