Alpine Scramble - Red Mountain (Salmon La Sac)

Our party hit snow around 4500'. We left the official trail here and kicked steps straight up to the saddle. We headed south to look for the old fire lookout site platform. We reached the location marked on the map, but didn't find anything. Then we followed a boot path north to the northern summit. We found the foundation of the old lookout along the way. The boot path disappeared at this point, but we continued on mostly third class terrain to the northern summit. 

We had two new (but confident) scramble students with us. There was ample opportunity to practice good footwork to keep from kicking rocks or other debris.
