Trail was snow free for the first 3 miles. We put microspikes on there and snow was more or less consistent from that point on.
We stayed on the trail and went off trail 4200’. The snow was firm and we were able to travel without needing to use our snowshoes.
The snow was not super deep, and is considerably less than on a normal year. There is a good chance that it will be melted out early this year.
We met at the TH at 7 and were moving by 7:30. The forecast called for freezing temps over night and a significant warm up in the afternoon. We were worried about icy conditions on the way up and sloppy conditions on the way down. As it turns out the weather cooperated with firm conditions on the way up, and slightly less firm (not sloppy) on the way down.
It was a good group and a good day. The smiles per mile were high which is always a good metric for measuring a trip.
